Samsung Galaxy Note 20’s chipset might not be that bad after all

With the Galaxy Note 20 launch just a week away, all eyes will be on what upgrades Samsung brings to the table. While the chipset might remain unchanged, there might be a silver lining. While Samsung flagship like the Note series and the S series are powered by Snapdragon chipsets in the US and European markets, they come with Exynos chipset in Asian markets such as India. It often tends to lose out on the performance front against Qualcomm Snapdragon counterparts. However, a new leak suggests some good news in this regard. These optimizations should bring it closer to the Snapdragon 865 series. He even suggested that it is almost li

The Sega Genesis Mini gets a release date and a price

We've known for some time now that Sega was planning on releasing a Genesis Mini retro console, but up until now details have been thin on the ground. We do now finally have a release date for the box: September 19. Kotaku reports that the announcement was made on stage at Sega Fes 2019. The Sega Genesis Mini will hit stores in the US for $79.99 – that's roughly £60 or AU$115, though we don't have the official international pricing yet. The US version of the console is going to differ from the device sold in Japan, which will be take the Mega Drive name like the original console (Genesis was a rebadging done for the US market). The Japanese version is set to ship with six-button controllers. Again, there's no news on which version will hit

This incredible Mate 20 Pro offer beats all Huawei P30 Pro deals out there

With all the Huawei P30 Pro hype we've seen this week, it's been easy to forget about all of the other brilliant Huawei phone deals out there. Well we certainly haven't forgotten about Huawei's other flagships yet, and through a little bit of digging, we found a Huawei Mate 20 Pro deal that leaves P30 Pro prices in its wake.  Yep, this ridiculous Mate 20 Pro offer could well change your mind from grabbing those P30 Pro deals you've been coveting. Coming in at a tiny monthly cost of just £24 and upfront spend of just over £100, we've never seen the Mate 20 Pro this cheap . It doesn't even scrimp on data or have some convoluted clause to justify the price.  This contract is so cheap in fact, that the nearest P30 Pro deal to it will cost you £400 more over the two years. So it's probably a bit of a no-brainer. You can see this deal in full below, but we wouldn't hang around too long as you'll be kicking yourself if you miss out on this kind of

Why passengers can’t make a quick exit in the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe

Imagine you just pulled up to the Cheesecake Factory. If you have ever eaten there before, you know they serve some tasty cuisine. With my family, the first one out the door usually gets to pore over the menu before anyone else and make their picks. It’s a race to the culinary finish line, and after parking I’m usually the last one to arrive at the table. Of course, having kids bolt out of your crossover isn't ideal. There are cars everywhere, and some of them are being driven by teenagers with a freshly minted driver’s license. Sure, cars are moving at low speeds, but you have to stay super vigilant. Not so fast In a recent test of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe, which was redesigned for this model year, I was not as worried. A new feature called Safe Exit Assist became a great ally.  Here’s how it works. For starters, if you're parked and a car approaches from behind, a new tech in the Santa Fe kicks in. It’s called Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) and alerts

Apple and Qualcomm share spoils in court ahead of major ruling

The seemingly endless legal dispute between Apple and Qualcomm has taken another turn, with both companies claiming victories in court. The disputes form part of a wide-ranging row between the two companies being played out in courtrooms around the world. Qualcomm has frequently claimed Apple has violated its patents, while Apple says the Snapdragon chipmaker is abusing its dominant position in the market and charging extortionate fees. Qualcomm pays €1.34bn to enforce iPhone ban iPhone XR review Why is Apple selling fewer iPhones? Apple v Qualcomm This latest leg saw Qualcomm seek an import ban on iPhone 7, 8 and X models that use Intel chips which are alleged to infringe Qualcomm’s patents. Given that iPhones state “Designed by Apple in California, Assembled in China” on the back, an import ban would severely restrict the supply of the devices in the company’s home market. Two separate cases were heard by the US International Trade Commission (ITC), whose verdicts were split betw

Over a million Asus laptops could have been hacked

Update: Asus has been in contact to confirm that its laptops have been subjected to an attack, and outlined its steps to fix the security issue. Read our full story on Asus' response to the attack for more information. It appears that Asus is in some hot water after being compromised by hackers, who have hijacked the laptop maker’s update service to push malicious software onto Asus devices. This is according to security firm Kaspersky, who wrote a blog post describing how the hackers managed to gain access to the Asus Live Update Utility – which delivers software updates to Asus notebooks and PCs – using it to install a backdoor on machines around the world. Apparently, this backdoor – given the suitably ominous codename ShadowHammer – was delivered to an estimated one million Windows computers, or thereabouts, a rather staggering amount over a period of five months. Finding the perfect Chromebook for you

The Google Chromebook started as an idea from Google to create its own operating system that meant faster and better performing laptops without the high charges. Since then, lots of manufacturers have got involved creating their own Chromebooks which are now so powerful, battery efficient and good looking that they're a truly viable laptop – only you don't have to pay the usual laptop prices. However, they're not laptops as you know them, with cloud-based storage and Google-only apps, which might sound constrictive, but actually has lots of benefits. Since Chromebooks are all about portability and performance, they are a great way to get work done on the go. They often have battery lives which can keep going all day, or at least the 10 hours most normal humans can manage in one go, without needing a charge.  Thanks to Chrome OS running the show, software is efficient and cloud based, which means all your files, apps and settings are easily accessible no matter where you are

The best PDF to Excel converters 2019

The PDF was developed by Adobe in the 1990s, and it’s one of the oldest file types out there. But while it may be something of a veteran, that’s not to say the PDF document is outdated. Over the past two decades, it has remained one of the best ways to share media-rich documents with users across a plethora of platforms. One of the biggest benefits of the trusty PDF is that it offers both text and image formatting, regardless of application software, technology or operating system. However, the caveat here is the fact that it’s somewhat tricky and time-consuming to edit information in PDF documents. Lots of businesses send data in the form of PDFs, although the difficult part is making sense of this information. For example, you may want to transfer financial records from a PDF document to an Excel spreadsheet, but there isn’t an obvious or quick way to do this off-the-bat. That’s where a third-party PDF to Excel converter app comes in handy, and we’ve picked out the best offerings ri

Why cloud storage needs to become more social

It’s common knowledge that the internet has changed the way humans use computers, as well as handheld computing devices like tablets and smartphones. The advent of wireless network technology removed geographic limitations, thereby inciting demand for the ability to access digital files from any device anywhere. Enter cloud storage.  Cloud storage gave users the ability to access their information from the networked device of their choosing, but that information is still locked away on private computers (and in private cloud accounts) from the rest of the “network”—i.e., the internet-enabled human community that craves authentic information that commercial websites do not deliver. In order to make this cloud-stored information accessible and searchable on the internet, cloud storage itself needs to become more social. Empty list Why what's in the cloud needs to be shared and shareable Currently, websites are what’s available to be discovered by internet search. That’s it. These

Apple AirPods 2 release date, news and features

The long-awaited AirPods 2 are finally here , and according to Apple, they will deliver "faster connect times, more talk time, and the convenience of hands-free Siri." The second generation AirPods 2 come with a standard charging case or a wireless charging case and are available to order on the Apple website or Apple Store app from today, or from physical Apple Stores from next week.  Apple has just rolled out the new iPad Air (2019) , iPad mini (2019) , and a brand new iMac (2019) , so the AirPods 2 represent the latest in a stream of new hardware launches ahead of the March 25 video streaming launch event, which is expected to see the launch of a new Apple streaming service .  We originally expected the AirPods 2 to be radically different form their predecessors thanks to trademark and Bluetooth SIG filings , but judging from the official press release , this doesn't seem to be the case.  The trademark filings said that the second generation AirPods will be a health an

iMac 2019: release date, news and rumors

Apple has now officially announced the iMac 2019, and offered us some tantalising information about what we can expect from this year's all-in-one Mac. As we've said from the start, the iMac 2019 needs to offer a decent leap in hardware power because, almost immediately after the iMac 2017 hit the streets, backed with a 7th-generation Intel Kaby Lake processor, Intel announced the new 8th-generation Coffee Lake chips – which have been succeeded by 9th-generation Coffee Lake Refresh chips.  With the current iMac two generations behind the curve when it comes to silicon, the iMac 2019 needs some serious hardware upgrades. The good news is that Apple has done exactly that, announcing a refreshed iMac 2019 that doesn't look any different from the iMacs that have come before it, but with new 8th generation and 9th generation Intel processors. While we don't currently have all the information about the iMac 2019, we've updated this page with everything we know so far,

Dell has updated its range of gaming laptops in India with NVIDIA's latest RTX graphics cards. Speaking of desktop-class CPU, the Area 51m is the first laptop to be powered by Intel's 9th gen Core i7-9900HK octa-core CPU, supporting upto 64GB of RAM, so there's serious power here. To top it further, it comes with the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card, making it a top-of-the-line gaming setup. It features a 17-inch Full HD 144Hz display with narrow bezels with Alienware TactX keyboard that has a travel time of 2.2mm. The chassis of the laptop is crafted from a magnesium alloy and has certain points of interests. The thermal exhaust has a honeycomb pattern which is surrou

Snapchat could be about to get into gaming in a big way

Could a big selection of mini-games tempt you to spend more time inside Snapchat? According to an anonymous source "familiar with the matter", Snapchat is planning to announce a new gaming platform as early as next month. Cheddar reports that developers will be able to build games that live inside the Snapchat app, though what exactly they might look like and how they might work isn't yet clear. It's a rumor we've heard before , with a Snapchat gaming platform launch initially tipped for the end of 2018. That didn't happen, but it sounds as though the new features are ready to go in 2019. Snapchat recently rolled out a redesign Twitter introduces Snapchat-style camera features Snapchat Lenses are on the desktop An announcement will be made at the start of April at a Snapchat content and developer summit, according to Cheddar, with games made available at some point after that. Six Nations 2019 live stream: how to watch rugby union online from anywhere

We absolutely love it when the Six Nations goes down to the last weekend of action - so you can imagine how excited we are that there are still three teams in the hat that can still win the 2019 tournament. And with this guide, we'll tell you how to watch all the final round of rugby from the comfort of your home, or anywhere else you can get an internet connection for that matter - live stream Six Nations 2019 rugby from anywhere. Wales lead the table and are shooting for a Grand Slam, but England and Ireland are still in the hunt to win this year's rugby union title. In a World Cup year, it feels like gaining momentum with a tournament win now is just what these countries need.  Wales must now be hot favourites to win the Grand Slam in 2019. They dispatched England in round 3 with class and Scotland after that, extending their record breaking winning streak to 13 consecutive games. After beating Ireland and thumping France, England were looking like a force to be reckoned w

Borderlands 3: everything we know so far

Is a new Borderlands game about to be announced? If some recent tweets from developer Gearbox are to be believed, then Borderlands 3 – or an equivalent entry in the blisteringly funny shoot 'n' loot franchise – seems to be on the cards. It's been six years since Gearbox released Borderlands 2, and over four years since the follow-up, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, set between the events of the first two Borderlands games. After making a VR port of Borderlands 2 last year, fans are dying to see a new entry in the series. With larger-than-life characters, a lively and colorful alien planet to explore, tons of absurd weapons, and a wisecracking sense of humor, Borderlands has managed to blow some fresh air into an FPS genre that often sticks to 'gritty' visuals and dull urban environments. Borderlands 3 may not have been officially confirmed but at this point pretty much everyone suspects that it’s in the works – and we'd be very surprised if it wasn't announce

Tackling cybercrime with a culture of security

It was only in February 2019 when it was reported an EE customer was being stalked by someone who worked in the company for over a year and accessed her personal information without authorisation.   She first contacted the telecoms firm after her phone failed to receive any network signal, and after five days of this issue, was advised to visit a technician in-store. After replacing her handset and SIM-card, she then called the company to register her new details and immediately recognised the customer service advisor’s voice, a disgruntled ex-partner who worked in one of the high street stores. Considering the possibility all of her calls and messages were being monitored by him, she called the network’s complaints department with hopes of resolve. Although a complaint was filed, the harassment did not end there.  After failing to take the right course of action, the EE employee continued to harass her by calling and texting her incessantly. Once he started showing up unannounced at h

Best Apple Watch screen protectors: our top picks and what to look out for

Let’s start with a question. Does your Apple Watch really need a screen protector? If yours is stainless steel, the answer is probably no: its sapphire crystal glass is incredibly tough and very scratch-resistant. For aluminum Apple Watch models, things aren’t so clear-cut: the Ion-X glass is pretty tough, but we found our watch soon accumulated a lot of little scratches. They weren’t enough to annoy us in everyday usage, but they did affect the resale value. Scratches aren’t covered by your warranty, because they’re everyday wear and tear. Smashes are, though. If you really damage your screen and you’ve got AppleCare, Apple will replace the screen two times for a fee of $69/£49/AU$99 each time. The out-of-warranty fees are much higher, starting at just under $200/£200/AU$300 and reaching the heady heights of $800/£749/$1,199 if you have the ceramic Apple Watch 3 . Even if you do have AppleCare, it’s better not to have to pay the fee: protecting your watch from damage is cheaper than
